Those who skateboard are often called skateboarders, Skaters, Boarders or woodpushers, though the latter is more often used as a derogatory term. Skateboards can be used for recreational activity, as form of art, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding is seen as an extreme sport which has been shaped and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years since the 1970s. Tony Hawk's legendary computer games have more recently launched Skateboarding into a huge sport with over 18 million skateboarders worldwide ! It appeals to skaters from all walks of life and all ages and races.
